One reason I decided to start this blog was to chronicle my travels as a veterinary practice consultant. Everyone tends to think that because I travel to all these wonderful places that I must get to enjoy it while I’m there, which is not necessarily the case. IMG_4839Don’t get me wrong—-I do try to incorporate some “down time” to enjoy myself while I’m traveling, but most of the time, we are so busy running from place to place and working in between educational events to stay caught up that we seldom get to come up for air and enjoy the “sunshine”.

This morning, I posted on Facebook that I was at the Long Island airport and I immediately got a message from a friend who’s originally from Long Island. She wanted to make sure I had a chance to spend some time at the beach and visit a few of her favorite spots. Little did she know that I had spent most of Monday evening traveling to LI during a wave of thunderstorms and downpours (some were weather-related, while others were of a business nature), only to arrive at our hotel to feel as if we had walked into one of those movies where you’re a pair of criminals on the run….literally!

With three hours of sleep under my belt, a broken hair dryer, and accidentally leaving my toothpaste behind in my “prison cell”, my colleagues and I worked all-day with a group of veterinary professionals, teaching them the ins and outs of social media and website marketing. The emotional charge you get when you connect with a group like this, is what makes the travel, the ups and downs, and the stress all worth it! When you walk away from an educational event feeling like you made a difference—-it’s a sweet feeling.

Today, the sun is shining and it’s gorgeous on Long Island and my view is from the airport, as I await my flight home—-after 11 straight days on the road. It’ll be nice to sleep in my own bed tonight:)
